Gas
The Netherlands is no longer dependent on gas from Russia. When gas shortages occur worldwide, we notice it in the Netherlands. A shortage is caused, for instance, through sabotage of a pipeline or because less gas comes from Russia. Many households use gas for cooking, hot showers and heating. Prices rise or some foodstuffs are less available. There is currently no gas shortage.

Think ahead
- See how you can quickly and easily save on your energy bills in your own household. Save on both gas and electricity. CheckĀ www.zetookdeknopom.nl (information in Dutch only).
- If it fits within your budget, invest in long-term solutions to reduce your dependence on gas at home. For example, by installing solar panels, insulating your home, cooking electrically and heating your home with a (hybrid) heat pump. For tips, visit www.verbeterjehuis.nl (information in Dutch only).
Government actions
- The government keeps a close eye on the situation on the gas market.
- The gas storages in the Netherlands are filled before winter in order to have a buffer to cope with shortages.
- The Netherlands and Europe are taking measures to become less dependent on gas from Russia. For instance, more liquefied (LNG) gas is being sourced from other countries. Coal-fired power plants are also temporarily allowed to produce more.
